Marine Electrician 1

General Summary: Performs electrical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be related to inspections, repairs, modernization and/or alterations.

 

Job Location: Mayport, Florida

 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Must have completed a formal related course of study in trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program and must have 2-5 years of verifiable experience as an electrician in an industrial environment i.e., shipbuilding, ship repair or nuclear power plants.
  • Must have experience with Voltmeters, Amp Meters, Ohmmeters, Power Analyzers, and General Hand Tools.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals, make working diagrams, circuits, electrical systems, circuits, controls, instruments and equipment.
  • Must possess working knowledge of shipboard systems operating requirements.
  • Must be able to read and understand material safety data sheets (MDS).
  • Must be able to follow safety procedures.
  • Performs troubleshooting and/or testing of various electrical, systems, circuits, controls, instruments and equipment, onboard military shore facilities, Navy ships/vessels to include submarines and/or ship’s components and documents test requirements.
  • Conducts voltage and other electrical safety checks.
  • Repairs electrical equipment such as: motors, switches, radios, appliances, control panels, starters, navigation lights and lighting equipment.
  • Performs connections/hook-ups to panels, switches, and boxes.
  • Assists with cleaning up work area (removing debris from work area).
  • Employee may be required to travel for work to other locations

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:

Must possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data basis.

 

Certificates & Licenses:

Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required on a regular basis to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and/or hear. Frequently the employee is required to carry objects that might weigh up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to see color and to see object at a distance of 20 inches or less.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is working on a ship.  The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts or working in a confined space. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. On a frequent basis the employee is exposed to the risk of electrical shock.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
