Marine Laborer

 

General Summary: Performs variety of general work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be assigned by Project Manager.

 

Job Location: Bremerton, WA

 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Experience installing cable and cableway banding is a plus but not required.
  • No formal training is required for this position; however, experience in ship repair is helpful.
  • Experience with general hand tools is helpful.
  • Performs a variety of general manual labor tasks including, but not limited to, lifting and moving materials, loading and unloading vehicles, surface preparation work, and other activities in a helping or assisting mode.
  • Assists mechanic in simple repairs on machinery.
  • Perform housekeeping efforts to maintain cleanliness of the worksite.
  • Delivers materials as required.
  • Performs duties as Fire Watch.
  • Participates in special projects as required.
  • Employee may be required to travel for work to other locations.
  • Must be able to read & understand material safety data sheets (MDS).
  • Must be able to follow safety procedures.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

 

Certificates & Licenses:

Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed. Secret Clearance preferred but not required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is working on a ship.  The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts or working in a confined space. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
